Simple Plan! (Complete with Cowboy Hats)
Well, I can pretty much die happily now.
Eight years of fandom finally came to a head last night as I finally got to see Simple Plan perform live at the Coke Stage at the Stampede! I went in very excited, and came out a crazed fangirl. Let’s recap, shall we?
It was a dark and stormy night… Well, afternoon. Yesterday we received crazy amounts of rain. I was soaked within minutes of leaving my house, and I was wearing my thick Rent hoody! In fact, that hoody is still damp, hanging off my bed, right now!
Luckily, it cleared up a bit, and we only got a few sprinkles during the show.
The opening band was The New Cities, and Lissa and I were able to catch the end of their set, after leaving the Youth Talent Search at intermission. They were pretty good! I’ll need to track down their music!
The majority of the fans there were high schoolers and they were obsessed. I got kicked in the head a lot at Saving Abel, but I was crushed quite a bit more by these crazy girls! Luckily, some of them couldn’t really handle the heat and the crowd, so they soon began dropping off, so I could move closer.
The show was AMAZING. I expected it to be pretty great, but it was simply amazing! I’ve never had more fun at a concert, singing along and having a great time. It was like being 13 again, which is when I first started listening to SP. The guys put on a really great show, the crowd interaction was great.
Specific highlights:
- Pierre telling everyone to jump during “Jump.” It was INSANE. I was like “Pierre, stop telling people to jump, we’re all going to die!”
- The guys asking for snacks. Like popcorn. Or… a hot dog. And then getting 5 corn dogs. David ate half of his and then threw it at the crowd. Mmm, chewed corn dog.
- The Calgary song that they wrote. The hot ladies, they referred to? THAT’S ME! :P
- The dance mix, which included Right Round by Flo Rida and Pokerface and Just Dance by Lady Gaga.
- The guys in COWBOYS HATS. WHITE STETSON, COWBOY HATS.
Lissa and I left at the encore to make a bee-line to the merch table where I bought TWO SP t-shirts, because I couldn’t decide which one I wanted. (Unfortunately I couldn’t buy all 4.) Then everyone started lining up for autographs. But THEN they told us that SP had left already and there would be no autographs! At this point, a bunch of the teenyboppers were pissed off and left, but Lissa and I went to the side gate to wait. And then, and then SP came out!
- Pierre: I was too scared to go talk to Pierre. :P But he was really nice, signing things and taking pictures.
- Sebby: Also, was still at a point of being overwhelmed and couldn’t ask for anything. But once again, really nice and cute.
- Jeff: This is when I remembered that I really wanted to talk to the guys and such. So, I sort of rushed up at him and asked for a hug and a photo.
- Chuck: Now I was all brave, so I asked for a picture with him as well.
[Please ignore my ugliness in the photos. Rain all day IS NOT fun for my hair.

But, wait, who’s missing?
David went completely AWOL. It was like he’d disappeared! I mean, at one point he was on stage, and then the next the security were all leaving and saying stuff like “we work here, we know the band has left.” But we knew we hadn’t seen David, so we waited. Soon, there were only about 30 of us left, and that’s when we spotted David. Let me tell you something about David– he is absolutely adorable. We all ran over to the stage, and a couple of the girls were screaming. David came over, and he knelt down and said very quietly “I’ll make you a deal. If you all stay calm, I’ll sign something for each of you.” So, we waited, and I finally got to meet Dahv. I said something like “Salut David!” and he said “Ça va?” and I mumbled something about “prends un photo…” and YAY.
Then I skipped off down the midway.

When I’m not making the Internet pretty & functional at my day job, I can be found snapping photographs, having dinner with friends, listening to kickass music, fiddling with one of my many Apple products or shopping for new & exciting sweaters.
