Warped Tour 09

Yesterday, Lissa and I went off to what was our first and what may be our last Warped Tour here in Calgary. Warped has been coming here for several years, but we’ve just… never gone. We were both super excited to go this year, however. It was a little bittersweet, though, considering the RaceCity Speedway is due to be closed and turned into a landfill soon, and we really don’t have another venue to accommodate this sort of event.

We started our adventure at 8am, with giant hair and no pants (we had leggings, ahem). Then, we restarted our day, after taking the bus back home, getting off at the beginning of the drive, running home to grab Lissy’s camera, and then running to catch the same bus we’d got off of at the end of the drive. It was intense, and we both need more time on the treadmill (and I need legs as long as hers). We took the train all the way to Anderson, but then there was supposed to be a bus ride, which would’ve taken over a half hour, followed by a 20 minute walk. “Screw that,” we said, as we whipped out our wallets and paid $40 for a taxi, because we’d gone farther on the train than necessary, so it cost more to backtrack.

A van ride through a huge traffic jam later, we made it there! The line went quickly, so we were frisked and soon were inside exploring. We checked out all of the bands’ tents, and then figured out who we wanted to see play.

First up, we saw There For Tomorrow, and they were quite good. I actually knew one of their songs, so that was a nice start. We had fun wandering around and looking at all of the booths. I found the Katimavik booth and overenthusiastically said hi. We learned how to self-examine our breasts at another booth. Vans doesn’t know that we’re called Canada NOT Canadia.

Not sure what the band that played Smart Punk before Cash Cash was called, but they were okay. The stages (Smart Punk alternates with Hurley.com) were behind schedule. Cash Cash and All Time Low were scheduled to play the same time, so Lissa went to see ATL and I waited for Cash Cash, but ATL played on time, so she got to see both. Lucky. :P But, I wouldn’t have got my spot at the barrier if I’d gone to see ATL, so it’s okay.

Anyway, AMAZING show. Fav of the day, by far!

If you don’t believe that I had an awesome time at their show, 94 of the 121 pics I took yesterday are of Cash Cash– 96 if you count the photos of me with the lead singer and with the bassist. I met them afterward, and the lead singer and I discussed some stuff.

Ummm… I also saw Meg & Dia, and oh my, Dia is ADORABLE. I like their music a lot, but I’d never really seen them before. I really wish I could’ve met them, but Liss and I couldn’t find their tent for the life of us! Still, excellent show. I hope they come back soon (not like Salt Lake City is THAT far!).

The rest of the afternoon we pretty much wandered, bought stuff, saw Madina Lake (but I was too far for good pics), Less Than Jake, and whoever else we walked by. We went to see 3Oh!3, but after a few songs, I was feeling absolutely horrible, and Lissa had a headache. We sat in the shade for a bit, and felt better, but when we got up, it sucked again. So, we headed off to the medic tent, where Liss got some Tylenol, and I had heat exhaustion. The first EMTs we had were nice, but then we got two guys who were incredibly arrogant. They prodded me a lot, which I didn’t like, and threatened to hook me up to a saline IV. :( They wanted to send me home, but I didn’t want to go just yet, so I signed a form that said I denied treatment, and Liss and I went to go buy more things before leaving. Thankfully, our cab to Chinook train station was only $25. :D

I seriously spent SO much money, but it was sort of my last hurrah, since I start school in September. Off the top of my head, I bought two Cash Cash tees, a Cash Cash CD, a Cash Cash wristband, a yellow bag with a hot pink zebra handle that has monsters on it and says “Make Old People Dance”, a To Write Love On Her Arms long-sleeved hooded shirt, a Warped 09 compliation CD, another CD by another band whose name I can’t recall… I think that’s it, but I can’t be sure. Quite expensive though! I also got a bunch of stuff for my bulletin board in my room.

Anyway, lots of fun! I’m burnt and thirsty, so you know where I’m headed! ;)
