Recipe: Croque Monsieur
My family and I sometimes visit a pâtisserie at a local farmers market and stock up on delicious French pastry. We like to have their croque-monsieur for breakfast. “Croque-monsieur” is French for “Mister Crunch.” Essentially, it is a grown up grilled cheese sandwich. This morning, I decided to make my own version for brunch. We have a Chinook today, and I spent yesterday curled up in a blanket dealing with migraine pain. I needed comfort food to recover, so I went out (in my pyjamas) to fetch the ingredients (for 3 sandwiches, as my brother left for work around 9:30).

Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- Margarine
- Mustard
- Mayonnaise
- 6 slices of Calabrese bread (it’s a golden, round Italian bread. Feel free to use your favourite bread.)
- Swiss cheese (I used a small block of Kraft cheese, which I grated. I love cheese, so I probably used nearly two cups in this recipe, but it might be best to either use pre-grated, or just grate what you need as you go)
- Thin, sliced black forest ham.
- Tomato (I used one for the 3 sandwiches)
- Non-stick spray.

When I’m not making the Internet pretty & functional at my day job, I can be found snapping photographs, having dinner with friends, listening to kickass music, fiddling with one of my many Apple products or shopping for new & exciting sweaters.
