The Last Dress

I have a tendency to overindulge in.. well, everything. As excellent as I was at showing restraint and saving the money needed for my school tuition, I have unfortunately failed to show any dedication to anything similar since.

I’m the type of girl who goes out and blows her entire paycheque on clothes, make-up, dinners out, extravagant gifts and other unnecessary luxuries. My trip to Vancouver, which I estimated as costing me about $600, exceeded $800, not including the new luggage, accessories and cost of pre- and post-flight Starbucks.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in debt, or anything, and I do still have a comfortable cushion between each paycheque, but I feel as if I could do better.

So, I have set myself a challenge, which I am now referring to as “The Last Dress Challenge.”

Here is the dress:

I purchased it on ModCloth this evening. The deal with it is that I will not be able to wear it, nor will I be making any unnecessary purchases, until several personal goals are met. Unnecessary purchases include:

  • Clothing. We all know I own an exceptional amount of sweaters, and now it is up to me to wear them a few times before I buy new ones. The one exception to this could be winter-clothing (i.e. I don’t think I have a winter jacket at the moment).
  • Cosmetics. I am addicted to everything Benefit Cosmetics does, but I definitely have enough to last me into the new year. There’s no need for 10 different products designed to give me a “dewy glow.”
  • Dinner costing over $10. For the most part, cutting down on indulging will mean cutting down on junk food, in general, which means less dinners out. Since I still do value my social life, I will be putting a $10 cap on dinners out, which should take place twice a week, MAX.
  • Starbucks. Probably about $200 of my monthly income goes to Starbucks. Also, about 10 000 calories go to my thighs. Eep.

… among other things.

As I said, I have several personal goals to reach before “The Last Dress Challenge,” can be completed, but I think that my main goal is to have enough money saved to be in a comfortable position to take a trip to the UK this upcoming February.

Wish me luck!
